Silicon Valley is a springboard to the nations

Among the many times I have been praying for revival for Silicon Valley, one theme I kept feeling like God was emphasizing is that this particular area can be a launching pad for revival into many other regions across the world. Silicon Valley is diverse area, mixing local and foreign technology, business and governmental talent.

  • 36% of residents were not born in the United States
  • 2x to 3x the number of our residents speak Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog or other Indo-European languages at home than the national average.
  • High H-1B visa density (17 per 1000 workers according to a 2012 report).

This massive flow of people into this area, but then eventually back to their originating country, or to another region, poses an awesome cultivation opportunity for Christ. Every tech worker, visa holder, immigrating resident is a potential carrier of Christ’s hope to far off lands. And many times, these people can become very influential in their originating context (either because of the wealth their earned, or the skills and insights they attained).

So my prayer very much is that Christ’s churches in Silicon Valley will have a renewed heart to minister His Gospel to the nations, and many of these nations are gathered in the neighborhoods and cities of Silicon Valley.

And as we grow them into disciples, not just converts, they will carry a revival with them where ever they go. Amen!

Note: Every year, the Silicon Valley Community Foundation releases a report about the people, the society, and the governance of Silicon Valley. Many of the above supporting facts were gathered from their 2014 Report.
